1first thing figure out what pitch your house roof is, meaning is if your house a standard 6/12 pitch i wouldn't go less than a 3/12 pitch on your porch roof if you are planning on putting shingles on it, if a metal roof or plastic no less than a 2/12 pitch because of rain and snow but yeah there is alot to cover on this subject to do this and not enough room on the internet to explain it all, home depot or even lowe's can help you with there computer design and be able to tell you how much and what type of lumber you will need
